La llorona is a figure from Mexican folklore. Driven mad by her husband's unfaithfulness, she drowns her children in the river. When she recovers, she is wracked with grief at what she has done and commits suicide. Her ghost wanders the earth searching for her lost children.
lyrics
La llorona, La llorona, la llorona, weep for us
Hurt when her lover left for another
She turned on the only thing she could
Hurt dearly, crying sincerely
She took her children out in the wood
CHORUS
La llorona, La llorona
La llorona, weep for us
La llorona, La llorona
La llorona, weep for us
In the dark night, in the winter
By the river her children she drowned
Crying for the wrong that she’s done
What she’s lost can never more be found
CHORUS
Hear her weeping, on the battlefield
Hear her weeping in the streets of LA
Hear her weeping in New Orleans
Weeping for the children lost today
CHORUS
